A day after Easter Justin and I took off on yet another road trip.

Destination: Telluride.

Our first stop along the journey was South Park, yes that South Park. It’s a little town, can’t say it was much of anything but we stopped and saw it anyway.

After South Park we came across Blue Mesa Reservoir, which we learned is the largest lake in Colorado and is located on the Gunnison river approximately 30 miles west of the city of Gunnison. It’s beautiful water, in which we saw boaters, wind surfers, hikers, fisherman, and campers. If I were the camping type I would definitely visit Blue Mesa Reservoir for a weekend!

Finally Telluride; A historic mining town about 6 hours from Denver, in the southwest corner of Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. The town is only 5 by 10 blocks long and an altitude of 8750 ft.

Originally a mining town, Telluride now is known for its ski resort, Telluride Ski Resort. In the summer, there are festivals almost every weekend, including Mountainfilm in Telluride, the Telluride Film Festival, Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, the Telluride Wine Festival, the Mushroom Festival, the Nothing Day Festival and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Since, it was the offseason (too warm to ski and too cold to hike) we experienced a sleepy mountain town and loved every minute of it! No waiting for dinner, shopping Patagonia sales and exploring a town that lived up to its beauty with a backdrop that’s almost unbelievable.

We stayed two nights at The Hotel Telluride, which is a boutique chalet with a European feel; that since was in the offseason, I think we were 1 of 5 guests at the hotel, which was nice since we brought the dogs.

At the east end of town, Bridal Veil Falls is Colorado’s longest (365 ft) free falling waterfall. Which was frozen when we were there and yet an amazing sight.

Telluride Eats

Brown Dog Pizza is a must eat while in town!

We ordered the Detroit Style Brooklyn Bridge* and a local beer flight

*1st Place International Pizza Challenge 2014: mozzarella and brick cheeses / pizza sauce / creamy NY ricotta / natural casing pepperoni / Italian sausage / chopped garlic / Sicilian oregano / pecorino Romano cheese (Insert drooling self)

The Butcher and Baker for breakfast, lunch and dinner quickly became my go to and suddenly I could see myself as a local.

We’ve decided that if we ever win the lottery Telluride will be our landing spot, perhaps hanging with few celebs.

Until next time Telluride!
